Affiliate marketing without a business registration, website or audience: what really works
You can start without a website and without a big audience. Not without a business registration: as soon as you want to earn money with affiliate links in Germany, you register a trade (Gewerbe), even as a side business. Only for learning and testing you do not need one. Here is a short answer and a first step for each question.

Affiliate marketing without a business registration?
In Germany a trade (Gewerbe) is an independent, planned and ongoing activity with the intention of making a profit. Regular affiliate commissions usually meet that definition, even as a side income. Anyone who starts a trade notifies the local trade office at the same time (§ 14 GewO).
While you are only learning, practising content and not yet using partner links, you do not need a registration. The switch comes with the plan to earn money, so register before you publish your first affiliate link.
- Trade office (Gewerbeamt): register with your municipality, often online. The fee is set locally.
- Tax office (Finanzamt): report the new activity within one month, usually via ELSTER (§ 138 AO).
- Small business VAT rule: no VAT as long as your turnover did not exceed €25,000 in the previous year and does not exceed €100,000 in the current year (§ 19 UStG).
- Trade tax: sole traders have an allowance of €24,500 trade income (§ 11 GewStG).
- Chamber of commerce (IHK): registration makes you a member; fees depend on your IHK’s rules.

Affiliate marketing without a website?
You do not need your own website to start. Many programmes allow links on Pinterest, in YouTube descriptions, in your link in bio or in your newsletter. Check each programme’s terms for permitted channels.

Without showing your face or without social media?
You do not have to appear on camera. Screen recordings, tutorials, comparisons with clear criteria and a calm voice build trust as well. What matters is that you answer real questions.
Without social media, search engines, Pinterest and email work best. One blog article that answers a common question can bring visitors for years.
What always applies: label your affiliate links
On a website, Pinterest or in a newsletter, commercial communication must be clearly recognisable (§ 6 DDG, § 5a(4) UWG). German media authorities recommend the words “Werbung” or “Anzeige” (advertisement), clearly visible next to the link.
